LOW WATER PRESSURE

LOW WATER PRESSURE

Low water pressure is a common issue for many households.

Low water pressure can affect your plumbing system and many appliances that you use on a day-to-day basis. Whether you need to wash the dishes or take a quick shower, low water pressure can make it difficult to do even the simplest of tasks. Luckily, low water pressure can be easily resolved with proper identification of what is causing it.

What are the most common causes of low water pressure?

The most common causes of low water pressure are:

Mineral and debris buildup in pipes

  • If you realize that there is low water pressure for only one or two appliances in your home, it is likely due to a buildup within the pipes. Water has many minerals and can easily pick up debris that is tossed down or built up in the drain. As a result, all of these materials can build up within pipes or fixtures. This can cause a blockage of water flow.
  • To resolve this, you can fill a small plastic bag with white vinegar and hang it on the showerhead or faucet using a rubber band. Leave the bag to hang for a couple of hours and this should relieve the blockage.

Water Leaks

  • Leaks are a frequent cause of lowered water pressure. A leak can stop your water flowing from entirely reaching your taps. When there is a leak in your pipes it can diminish the water flow from the water main to your home’s appliances. Even if a leak appears to be due to a minor crack or a small hole, it can significantly lower your water pressure.
  • To resolve a water leak, a repair or replacement of your pipes will need to be conducted by a plumbing professional. If you believe that you have a water leak and need to repair/replace your pipes, feel free to contact the Rooter Team!

Valve problems

  • If your main water valve is shut off, it may be a sign of why you are experiencing low water pressure. To resolve low water pressure, you should examine whether your main shut-off valve is completely opened. You will also want to inspect whether or not your home has a pressure-reducing valve installed.
  • If you need to resolve any valve-related issues, a plumbing professional from Rooter Team will be happy to provide service.

Multiple people using the water at once

  • An overlooked cause of low water pressure is that multiple people are using the water lines at once. If your neighbours are using the water line at the same time that you are, it can cause the water pressure to drop in each of the homes. Low water supply throughout your neighbourhood could also indicate that there may be a direct issue with your municipal water supply.

Old fixtures

  • If you suspect that you are experiencing low water pressure due to an older fixture, then you may need to purchase a new one.
